Last Summer, when my son & I were away at Cub Scout Camp, our den leader had introduced us to sports towels. They're thin, lightweight towels that are fast wicking and help reduce body temperature, from exercising/overheating, at a fairly rapid rate.
It was well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit outside and we were hiking through the woods. Some of the boys started getting hot and getting sick, so he pulled out a few sports towels, doused them with water, aired them out a bit and then slung them over the boys necks as they stood there with their arms up.
I had honestly forgotten about the cooling towels until I found them on Amazon.
The Rest Life towels are pretty similar to the ones my son and I tried at Cub Scout camp. These come in four colors: gray, blue, pink, or green. They run around $9/each but are worth every penny. Each towel comes in a hard plastic canister that has a sport clip, so you can easily clip the tube to your backpack or belt loops, for easy carrying. It's EXTREMELY lightweight; the towel is made of bamboo fibers and one side is a lightweight mesh to help the towel air out and dry quickly. They are 40" long by 12" wide.
To use the towel, simply immerse it in water, wring it out and lightly wave it around to being a cooling effect, then place it around your neck or on your head/face. Within minutes you'll start to cool down. To reactivate the cooling effect, wave it around again and then reapply to you neck, head or face.
It's starting to get pretty cold outside, so we aren't using our towel much, but I have mine clipped on my backpack that we take on our hikes. I Do wash my towel in the washing machine, but I hang it to dry and I do not use fabric softener on it.

I did receive this cooling towel at a discounted rate.
